Topic Description

The outbreak of pandemic in the end of 2019 has changed global health security, the world economy and international cooperation, as well as the lifestyle and living environment of each of us. New concept of a “living community” emerged after the pandemic. In addition to the changes in people's demand for indoor living space, the requirements for community life and infrastructure are also worthy of attention. The concept of “15 Minute City" is endowed with a new desire of "Urban Utopia”.

This project is an urban planning concept aiming at meeting the residents’ daily needs such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, and entertainment within walking or bicycle distances. This concept was first proposed by Carlos Moreno, a French-Colombian scholar, in 2016, and then promoted by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. This concept can be described as "returning to the local lifestyle”.

This workshop aims to stimulate contemplation regarding the definition of health, safe and sound living space after pandemic and all the designs are based on the “15 minutes” space of each person. Based on the model of “Four Orders of Design” (communications, objects, interactions and systems), we will come up with systematic solutions to human settlement. We emphasise the training of designing "thinking system” instead of the traditional “result-oriented" one.”

In the whole design process, the "double-diamond model" (discovery-define-development-delivery) is used as a guide to train students' human-oriented, systematic, collaborative and visual design thinking.

Output results

Design strategy prototype, Publicity video, H5 interaction
